It’s time for Air-Tech 2010
Chris Dee, executive director, The British Compressed Air Society (BCAS) looks forward to Air-Tech 2010, taking place at the NEC, Birmingham (8-10 June).
In 2006 and 2008 the compressed air industry enthusiastically welcomed the arrival of its very own dedicated exhibition, Air-Tech, and following from those successes Air-Tech is now a much-valued fixture on our industry’s events calendar. In 2010, the show promises to be the biggest and most successful yet and will once again be held at Birmingham’s NEC, co-located with five other leading events. Entry to Air-Tech is free of charge and once inside you will find the show covers the very latest show in compressed air from the UK's largest gathering of world class companies.
As has been the case over Air-Tech’s previous runs, many well-known faces from BCAS’s membership, as well as ex-members and our own BCAS staff, will be in attendance. As a society we have always valued our past members highly and, indeed, regularly call on certain respected individuals to act as a filter through which to run some of our pilot schemes and other forward-thinking ideas. Another key benefit of Air-Tech is that it is a useful event for keeping in touch with professional advisors, as well as making contact with the enthusiastic young students and recent graduates who will become the important next generation of our industry.
BCAS seminars
As for the BCAS stand itself, we will have staff on hand to explain the raft of benefits membership can bring to your company – whether in the form of training, insurance, registration schemes and events, etc. BCAS will also be presenting three seminars; one each day of the exhibition. These are titled:
- Who can you trust? The future for compressed air suppliers.
- The importance of leak detection in compressed air systems.
- The importance of service and maintenance of compressed air systems.
This year also sees us celebrating somewhat of a milestone in our long and eventful history. Having reached our 80th Anniversary we are now stronger than ever as a trade society. Our first meeting was held on 8 January 1930 at the Institute of Civil Engineers, Great George Street, London. Membership for the first 50 years was exclusively for UK registered manufacturers but this has in recent years expanded to include distributors, suppliers, end-users and individuals from around the world who also play a critical role in our industry.
Just one of many of the initiatives we would like to discuss with visitors to this year’s Air-Tech is the AirSAFEregister. This online scheme goes from strength to strength and, following the recent presentation at the BCAS 2010 Spring Conference, will become an integral part of society membership. If you have not taken a look recently at what this scheme can do for your business, you can click the link on the right hand side of the BCAS website or go to: www.referenceline.com/bcas <http://www.referenceline.com/bcas> .
Important issues
We also offer a raft of important training courses to our members, including the one-day BCAS Written Scheme of Examination for compressed air systems, the five-day BCAS Competent Examiner Course, and many others. The society is also invaluable as a forum for debating a number of important industry issues while looking to ensure our members and our industry are well served now and in the future. We look forward to meeting up with you at this year’s Air-Tech to dicsuss how we can work closer together, and wish you every success at the show.
The NEC in June 2010 is set to be the focus of the largest manufacturing and engineering event of 2010. Air-Tech, Drives and Controls Show, Plant and Works Exhibition, and the International Fluid Power Exhibition (IFPEX) taking place between the 8-10 June at the NEC, Birmingham will form part of the manufacturing and engineering series of shows alongside MACH 10, Subcon, Electrex, and IP&EE.
Show organiser DFA Media believes its series of events ensures industry professionals will be able to gain the broadest insight concerning what industry solutions are currently available on the market.
